How Much Does It Cost to Frame a Hermès Scarf? A 2026 U.S. Price Guide

Quick answer: At the four U.S. framers we checked in October 2026, framing a 90 cm (35 × 35 in) Hermès carré with standard acrylic cost $408.99 to $1,052 before shipping and tax. With 99% UV-filtering or museum glazing, one quote reached $1,191 and $2,254. A DIY magnetic Scarf 90 frame from Arts & Artisan, built on a solid wood backing board, costs $345, or $374.99 delivered to a U.S. address with UPS/FedEx shipping, taxes and tariffs included. It sets up at home in 30 to 60 minutes.

A Hermès scarf is a piece of art you can wear, which is exactly why so many end up folded in their orange box. Framing one is a lovely way to enjoy it every day, but prices are hard to find and vary a lot. We checked current prices ourselves, explain what drives the cost, and show how a DIY frame compares.

What professional scarf framing costs in the U.S.

On October 26, 2026, we priced a full 90 cm carré (about 35 × 35 in) on the websites of four U.S. framers: three online framers and one specialty frame shop in New York and New Jersey. We have not named them, because prices change and we want to report only what we saw on that date.

Framer What we priced Price (before shipping and tax)
Online textile framer Shadow box, 35 × 35 in interior, no mat, standard acrylic; the framer describes stitch mounting $408.99
Online framer, oversized tier Physical items up to 40 × 48 in, framed in-store only $550
Specialty frame shop (NYC and NJ) Advertised scarf special up to 40 × 40 in, including steaming, hand stitching, frame and glass $785
Online framer, mail-in 35 × 35 in scarf, linen mat, shadow-box spacer, standard acrylic, default dry mount (heat-activated, acid-free adhesive) $804
Same online framer As above, hand-sewn onto a linen mat $1,052
Same online framer Hand-sewn, with 99% UV-filtering acrylic $1,191
Same online framer Hand-sewn, with anti-reflective, 99% UV-filtering museum acrylic $2,254

Two things stand out. First, how the scarf is attached affects the price: one framer's default mount for scarves uses a heat-activated, acid-free adhesive, and its hand-sewn option costs $248 more. Second, glazing is the biggest swing: UV-filtering acrylic added $139 and museum-grade acrylic added $1,202 at that framer.

Local frame shops vary widely by city, frame and glazing, so ask for a written quote that states how the scarf will be attached and what the backing is made of.

Size matters too: a classic 90 cm carré is bigger than many online framers accept by mail. One of the framers we checked handles anything larger than 32 × 40 in only in its retail stores, at its oversized price tier.

What drives the price

Size. A carré needs a frame of roughly 37 to 40 in once you add a border. Larger glazing, moulding and backing all cost more, and oversized pieces may only be accepted in-store.

Frame style. A shadow box or a gilded wood frame sits at the top of the range.

How the scarf is attached. Hand stitching the silk to a fabric-covered board is skilled, slow work, and it usually costs more than adhesive mounting. Conservation guidance generally favours stitching over adhesives for textiles, so ask which method your quote includes.

Glazing. Standard acrylic at one framer filters up to 82–85% of UV rays. Upgrading to 99% UV-filtering acrylic added $139 for a 35 × 35 in scarf, and anti-reflective museum acrylic added $1,202.

Backing board. On a frame this large, the backing has to stay perfectly flat for years. Many framers use lightweight foam board; a rigid backing such as solid wood is sturdier but costs more to make and ship.

Hidden costs. Plan for dry cleaning before framing, shipping both ways if you mail the scarf to an online framer, and turnaround time: the New York shop quotes about 7 to 10 days, and one online textile framer ships 3 to 5 business days after it receives the scarf.

What a DIY magnetic scarf frame costs, delivered

Arts & Artisan frames are sized for standard designer scarves. Each kit includes 5 components: an aluminum frame, UV-protective acrylic, an acid-free matboard, a solid wood backing board and magnetic strips that hold the scarf without needles, pins or glue.

Why solid wood backing matters. A Scarf 90 frame is almost 39 in (98 cm) across. At that size, a thin foam board can flex or bow over time, which lets the silk sag and the acrylic shift. Our frames use a solid wood backing board instead of foam board, so the whole frame stays rigid and flat: the scarf stays smooth, the magnetic edges hold evenly, and once the screws are tightened the wood holds the acrylic firmly in place. It is the same sturdy construction in every size, from Scarf 45 to Scarf 90.

Shipping to the U.S. is a flat UPS/FedEx rate with no oversize surcharge, even for a frame almost 39 in (98 cm) across with a solid wood back, and taxes and tariffs are already included in the price. What you see below is what you pay.

Frame Fits scarves measuring Frame price U.S. shipping Total delivered
Scarf 45 42–45 cm (16.5–17.7 in) $212 $9.99 $221.99
Scarf 55 55–60 cm (21.7–23.6 in) $249 $19.99 $268.99
Scarf 70 66–70 cm (26–27.6 in) $285 $19.99 $304.99
Scarf 80 79–86 cm (31–34 in) $315 $19.99 $334.99
Scarf 90 88.5–90 cm (34.8–35.5 in) $345 $29.99 $374.99

Prices and shipping rates as of October 2026. Orders ship in 2–5 business days and arrive in 2–7 business days within the U.S. Not sure which size you need? See our scarf frame size guide.

The value case, in numbers

For a 90 cm carré, here is how $374.99 delivered compares with the framer prices above, which do not yet include their shipping or tax:

  • $677 less than hand-sewn framing with standard acrylic ($1,052).
  • $816 less than hand-sewn framing with 99% UV-filtering acrylic ($1,191).
  • $1,879 less than hand-sewn framing with museum acrylic ($2,254).
  • Solid wood backing included. No foam board, and no upgrade fee for a rigid back.
  • One frame, many scarves. Rotate 4 scarves through one Scarf 90 frame and you pay about $94 per display. Framing those same 4 scarves professionally would start at $1,635.96 at the lowest price we found.
  • Minutes to set up. No drop-off and no mailing your scarf away: once the frame arrives, set it up at home in 30 to 60 minutes.
  • Backed by customers and a warranty. More than 120 customer reviews averaging 5.0 stars, and a one-year limited warranty against manufacturing defects.

When professional framing is still the right call

A DIY frame is not the answer for every scarf. Choose a professional framer, or ask a textile conservator first, if your scarf:

  • is fragile, torn, stained or has weak areas in the silk;
  • is an unusual shape or size that falls outside standard ranges;
  • is a museum-worthy heirloom you want framed to conservation standards;
  • calls for a specific look, such as a gilded wood frame or a deep shadow box.

Canada's Conservation Institute recommends consulting a textile conservator before framing textiles in poor condition, because the wrong treatment can cause further damage.

Frequently asked questions

Is it worth framing a Hermès scarf? If the scarf spends more time in a drawer than around your neck, framing turns it into art you see every day. Many collectors frame the designs that are too detailed or too precious to wear often.

How much does shipping cost for a scarf frame? To U.S. addresses, Arts & Artisan charges a flat UPS/FedEx rate: $9.99 for Scarf 45, $19.99 for Scarf 55, 70 and 80, and $29.99 for Scarf 90. Taxes and tariffs are included in the frame price.

Why does the backing board matter? The backing is what keeps a large framed scarf flat. A solid wood backing board stays rigid across a frame nearly 39 in wide, so the silk does not sag and the acrylic stays in place. Lightweight foam board is cheaper but can flex over time.

Will framing reduce my scarf's value? Reversible methods keep the scarf intact and wearable. Glue and adhesive boards are the main risk: they bond to the fibres and are difficult or impossible to remove.

My vintage "90" measures less than 88.5 cm. Which frame do I need? Older and hand-rolled scarves often measure a little smaller. A Scarf 80 frame fits scarves from 79 to 86 cm.

How long does a DIY frame take to set up? About 30 minutes to an hour. Follow our step-by-step guide on how to frame a Hermès scarf at home.
